FAQs

What is Residential Assisted Living?

RAL Homes are located in neighborhoods and look like a typical home. They are designed to give those living there a feeling that they are still “home’. RAL Homes focus more on individualized care plans, building close relationships with our residents and a high caregiver to resident ratio. This allows our residents to receive assistance with activities of daily living as well as physical and mental stimulation and inclusion in a safe, loving home-like environment. Our small home is far less intimidating than the big facilities, and residents never have to worry about feeling like a number, or getting lost on their way to find the dining room. There is always someone right there to assist, help or guide with whatever the resident may need, 24 hours a day.

Do you accept Medicaid?

We are a private pay care home, but can help refer you to resources that can assist you in getting qualified for Medicaid or other assistance – Please refer to our HOW TO PAY FOR ASSISTED LIVING? section.

Do you have a visiting physician?

Yes, we do. Our Physician and Nurse makes house calls every few weeks, and can also be available as needed. We work with several medical providers in the community who love coming to our care home to see residents. These can include, but are not limited to: a nurse practitioner, med-pass nurse, podiatrist, home health, hospice, wound care and Physical, Occupational & Speech Therapy.

What do you mean by “Inclusive Pricing”?

We charge a flat rate for all services and amenities in our home. There is no “a la carte” menu of add-ons such as a medication package, laundry etc.  There are no hidden costs. This ensures all residents receive the care they need and families do not have to worry about additional charges, helping make budgeting easier. *Anything not covered in our Inclusive Pricing (based on individual needs) will be disclosed up front and agreed upon when signing the resident’s rental agreement before move in.

How do you evaluate if someone is suitable for residency?

We have an initial assessment process to determine if your loved one will be a good fit for our care home. This can sometimes consist of more than one session to ensure we are the best possible fit for each other.

Do I need to provide furniture for my loved one’s bedroom?

Thandi’s is completely furnished, including all bedrooms, but residents are welcome to bring their own furniture and change it to make it their own.  We are happy to provide all room furnishings if needed.

What are your terms of your leases?

We offer month-to-month rental agreements. There is no long term commitment. We do require a small community fee of $1,500 at move in – which is used to prepare the space between residents (repairs/painting etc). If a resident decides to move out of our home, for whatever reason, there is only a thirty (30) day notice required.

What kind of meals do you provide? How is the food?

We are always looking for ways to improve our menu’s. We strongly encourage feedback from our residents and their families. All meals are dietician-approved, home-cooked meals and snacks to promote overall good health and meet any special dietary needs. All our caregivers and food preparers have their food handlers certification, essential for keeping your loved ones safe.

Do you offer respite services and/or day care?

Depending on our resident occupancy, we will offer these services if we have the availability.  Fees will be negotiated prior to acceptance.

What activities do you offer?

We have a wide variety of activities and games for residents including dance/movement therapists to get your loved one moving; senior yoga; group exercises; music therapy; weekly brain games; discussion group topics; book club; happy hour; ice cream socials; gardening; bingo; chess; arts & crafts and more.
